Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage (Soft Tissue Therapy)

Introduction

This qualification gives learners the knowledge, integrity, competency and proficiency to perform sports massage on a range of clients who have no underlying pathological conditions. Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organisational setting or alternatively in a self-employed environment.

Entry requirements

This qualification is open to all.

Qualification structure and credit value

The learner must achieve all eight mandatory units. The total credit value is 30

Mandatory units - Credit Value required: Minimum 30, Maximum 30.

-          Anatomy and physiology for Sports Massage (T/602/5331) – this unit is worth 4 credits

-          Applying sports massage techniques (A/602/5332) – this unit is worth 7 credits

-          Assessing clients and treatment planning (R/602/5336) – this unit is worth 3 credits

-          Assisting soft tissue repair (J/602/5334) – this unit is worth 2 credits

-          Professional practice in sports massage (L/602/5335) – this unit is worth 2 credits

-          Providing post-treatment care (A/602/5329) – this unit is worth 2 credits

-          Anatomy and physiology for exercise (H/600/9013) – this unit is worth 6 credits

-          Principles of exercise, fitness and health (A/600/9017) – this unit is worth 4 credits

Course Format

The course can be run in two formats. We provide both a 4 week full time course and a 4 month part time course.

Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage (Soft Tissues Therapy)

Introduction

This qualification furthers learners the knowledge and skills in sports massage to be able to treat, and /or seek to; correct common patterns of dysfunction and suitable pre -diagnosed injuries. Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organisational setting of alternatively in a self-employed environment.

Entry requirements

Learners need to have completed the Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage (Soft Tissue Therapy) or equivalent.

Qualification structure and credit value

The learner must achieve all three mandatory units. The total credit value is 14

Mandatory units - Credit Value required: Minimum 14, Maximum 14.

1. Applying neuromuscular and soft tissue mobilisation techniques (D/602/5341) – this unit is worth 3 credits.

2. Conducting an objective physical assessment (H/602/5342) – this unit is worth 7 credits.

3. Prescribing corrective exercise to support the treatment of common injuries / soft tissue dysfunction (Y/602/5340) – this unit is worth 4 credits

Course Format

This course can be run in two formats. We provide a 1 week intensive full time course or a 1 month part time course.
